We have Mark Sanchez and just signed Drew (Stanton). Mark has taken us to 2 AFC championship games. We need to build on the team we have now.

Cruz made a name for himself. One that may carry into a nice role for him in 2011 wit the departure of Steve Smith.   7. thejetreport: GLANVILLE’S  ”NFL MEANS NOT FOR LONG,” TRUE NOW MORE THAN EVER With Jerricho Cotchery gone and Shaun Ellis halfway out the door and maybe headed for the Patriots, the notion of the Jets and loyalty to long time guys and players who want to stay here have come in question again. Guessing that Cotchery asked to be free after refusing to take a pay cut, and that Ellis is insulted with the offer given his decade long tenure, we are all once again witnesses to the fact that pro football is both the greatest sport, and cruelest business in sports. What many of us FAIL to see is that other NFL teams do the same. Derrick Mason wouldn’t be visiting Florham Park for a physical had HE not been let go by Baltimore for the same cost cutting reasons. The Giants said goodbye to ageless foot soldiers Shaun O’ Hara and Rich Seubert in order to move in “another direction” only days ago.  It’s not just the Jets. All teams due to cap restrictions are forced to cut corners after their star players leave them in penny pinching situations. It’s true that Jet players restructured their deals in order to give the front office more flexibility but none of this salary cap shell game is easy to play. For any GM. It’s doesn’t ever feel good to say goodbye to players we love and respect. Especially when they are courted by hated rivals. It is however, the harsh reality of the NFL. One that will not be going away any time soon. Especially with a lower cap in place. That’s why teams and players must seize the moment of a championship opportunity when it arises. There are zero guarantees for that same team being together tomorrow.  When former NFL Head coach Jerry Glanville said years ago  that the NFL meant “not for long” he had no idea how accurate his thoughts would be in relation to how the contract game is played in 2011.

    The Jet Report supports a handful of NY Jets bloggers. We’ll be giving our list of those to follow for insightful, unique and informed perspectives of the New York Jets, in the near future. This piece comes from the blog, Turn on the Jets, and will be on that list. We enjoyed this piece and offered this thought to blog head Joe Caporoso on top of it as well.

    As for the notion of a change in philosophy offensively from a run heavy mindset to a pass happy or balanced approach, we suggest that the key will be the speed and production of RB Joe McKnight. We envision McKnight as a Jamaal Charles type, who could help stretch the Ground and Pound to a running attack that finally forces defenders to respect the perimeter. That in and of itself would do wonders for the offense.
