Your Lifestyle Choices Have Consequences

Derek Holland Sans Mustache: 1.2 IP, 8 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO

Freddie Freeman Augmented By Goggles: 3-for-5, 1 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R
Now, I’m not saying that having a mustache and wearing goggles would make you an unstoppable baseball machine, one that was just as comfortable blowing mid-90s heat by batters as you would be smashing giant taters, but I’m not not saying that either.
Also, this is important for some reason:

-
Despite fouling out against Miami in game 2, Paul Pierce still had time to find that annoying booger that’s been plaguing him since Philly.
-
Wes & Rick Ferrell. Rick is a Hall of Fame catcher who spent some of his career with the Senators and Red Sox, but also with the St. Louis Browns. Who I’m very interested in learning more about ever since my jaunt to St. Louis and purchase of a Browns cap.

Photos by Scott Butner of the Seattle Sounders during the 1977 NASL season - including the Soccer Bowl defeat to the New York Cosmos at Portland’s Civic Stadium. Butner was 19 at the time, working for a photography studio contracted by the Sounders - in this interview with goalWA.net, he explained the challenges of shooting at the Kingdome:
“Mostly, I remember that shooting in the Kingdome was like taking pictures in a bat cave. Very dark, very cavernous. It was always such a treat to get to shoot a game outside for a change, where there was light, and weather, and sometimes even mud! All the things that made soccer photos more interesting.”

Are you ready for game 2 tonight? There’s a lot happening around the web since Miami’s game 1 victory. I’ve even posted some of it already, but there’s plenty more where that came from.
First, Ray Allen has been getting a lot of pub because he’s injured and Wade is killing him.
- Allen, for his part, claims “Now is the not the time to sit.” Well, it might be if it’s hurting his team, but I won’t argue the point. He knows how healthy he is.
- If Allen is hurting, Dwyane Wade will try to take advantage. Their match-up is key, says the Heat blog: Peninsula is Mightier.
- Allen also hasn’t been shooting very well, so besides his injury, he’s trying to find his shot.
- Howard Beck has more on Allen’s shot going “awry.”
- True Hoop has the specifics on Allen’s poor shooting.
- Ira Winderman thinks Doc should play Keyon Dooling in place of the hobbled Allen.
Then there’s Rondo. He struggled in game 1 even though he still put up OK stats.
- Rajon Rondo clarifies his “hit the deck” comments.
- Shandel Richardson of the Sun-Sentinel believes multiple looks on defense is the key to keeping Rondo in check.
- Rondo took a team-high 20 shots on Monday night during game 1, but that hasn’t stopped Doc from imploring him to be more assertive on the offensive end. Rondo didn’t shoot a single free throw during game 1 either (the refing was awful in game 1).
The Heat, for their part, are trying to stay focused on the game and ignore the distractions of Rondo’s comments or anything else outside of game 2. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade + Miami’s role players have proved to be even more efficient in Chris Bosh’s absence, and we’ll see if that continues tonight.
The Celtics are looking to pull another surprise with Doc Rivers, writes Ian Thomsen of SI, and I wouldn’t put it past them if they evened things up tonight. This series will be harder for the Heat than game 1 made it seem.
I’m excited.
